Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. said on Thursday that it is applying a smart safety system to construction sites.

The Hyundai Integrated & TVWS-based Tunnel Smart Safety System (HITTS) integrates wireless communication technology for underground tunnels with advanced safety solutions.

It leverages television white space to enable wireless communication throughout all corners of tunnels and underground spaces.

The innovation allows for reliable communication even in deep underground sites, leading to a wide range of smart safety solutions, such as high-resolution closed-circuit televisions (CCTV), hazardous gas sensors, and emergency warning lights, to be deployed to work as seamlessly as they do on the ground sites.

When integrated with the smart integrated control system HIBoard, the construction site can be monitored and managed remotely in real-time from field offices or headquarters.

This capability is expected to significantly enhance safety measures and boost construction productivity in tunnels and underground areas where wireless communications hurdles exist.
