Samsung, LG continue dominance in TV, OLED markets

Samsung Electronics Co. maintained its position as the global TV market leader for an 18th consecutive year since 2006.

According to market research firm Omdia, the company held a 30.1 percent global market share in 2023 based on sales revenue to continue its dominance. Samsung Electronics sold 8.31 million quantum-dot light-emitting diode (QLED) units during the year, bringing the cumulative sales to 44 million units over seven years since the product’s debut in 2017.

Fellow Samsung affiliate Samsung Display Co.’s foldable panel also passed the U.S. military’s standard durability test, which was announced on February 19th, 2024.

For its part, LG Electronics Inc. continued its dominance in the global OLED TV market for an 11th consecutive year. According to Omdia, LG OLED TV shipments totaled about 3 million units in 2023, accounting for around 53% of the market share based on shipments.
