Apple Inc. is planning to use displays made in-house instead of those supplied by Samsung Display Co. and LG Display Co.

Apple is expected to replace displays used in high-end Apple Watch Ultra with its own products by the end of next year, according to a report initially reported by Bloomberg News. The American tech giant reportedly plans to switch to the micro-LED display designed and made in-house for its device from the OLED display supplied by outside companies.

This will inevitably have a significant impact on Samsung Display and LG Display. Apple accounts for 20 percent of Samsung Display¡¯s total annual revenue and 30~40 percent for LG Display, according to industry sources.

Apple has been using more components made in-house in its devices as part of the effort to reduce reliance on suppliers. In 2020, the company began using in-house designed processors in its Mac computers instead of Intel chips.
