The first all-electric sedan Ioniq 6 is set to become Hyundai Motor¡¯s next prized model as its preorders neared 50,000 units in the first three weeks, setting a new record for the Korean carmaker.

According to Hyundai Motor on Wednesday, the carmaker had received over 47,000 preorders for the sleek Ioniq sedan as of last week, the third week since booking began on Aug. 22.

The first batch of orders has been shipped out on Sept. 16, much faster the usual timetable amid shortage of chips.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 with an aerodynamic design and rear spoiler is capable of driving at least 500 kilometers on a single charge.

The cocoon-like cabin gives a comfortable hideaway and personal space, and long wheelbase between the front and rear wheels enables optimized legroom and spaciousness like mid-size sport utility vehicle models.

Interior details have changed as well, with the window button on the center console and the gear lever on the steering wheel. Much improved noise control allows drivers and passengers to enjoy the quiet and comfortable ride.

The price at home was set at 52 million won ($36,944.94) for the standard model and at 56.05-63.15 million won for the long-range model to become eligible for government subsidy.
