Shinsegae International under South Korea¡¯s retail conglomerate Shinsegae Group is leveraging on big-data technology for art curation to better meet consumer tastes and build up aesthetic and luxury appeal to its online shopping mall.

The company announced Thursday that its shopping mall S. I. Village has opened S. I. Art Village, an online curatorial platform. The online platform selects promising artists based on big data and introduces their artworks and worldviews. The online gallery hopes to draw interests from art novices.

The platform selects an artist every month in different fields, such as figurative art, abstract art, photography, and sculpture, based on his or her performance, exhibition history, and art media appraisal. It would be feeding interviews and information on works of the artists.

Kim Dukki has been become the first choice as the artist of the month. The platform carries video on over 20 works through his 25-year art life and exclusively shares his new series.

Shinsegae International jumped into the art market and has expanded its art categories. It became the first in Korea to offer artworks on online mall, S. I. Village, in 2020. It is negotiating a buyout of Seoul Auction, a leading auction house in Korea.
