Hyundai Motor Co. will plug off its Asan plant for a month to transform the factory devoted to electric vehicles.

Hyundai Motor will suspend the operations of its Asan plant for four weeks starting next Tuesday for upscaling to accommodate EVs, gearing up for the launch of its next all-electric series Ionic 6 set for next year, according to industry sources on Friday.

Last month, the automaker decided to assign the production of Ionic 6 to Asan plant instead of building new lines for EVs.

Hyundai Motor will refurbish parts of the existing assembly lines at the 300,000-unit-capacity Asan factory that have been devoted to produce Sonata and Grandeur sedans.

The plant will resume production on August 7, the company said.

Shares of Hyundai Motor are trading down 1.53 percent at 226,000 won ($196.93) in the morning session of Friday.
