Moderna, a Massachusetts-based vaccine developer, is recruiting a general manager who will oversee its Korean operation as it readies to launch vaccine business in Korea.

According to industry sources on Sunday, the coronavirus vaccine developer posted a job vacancy notice on its website for director and PV country lead jobs in Korea.

The website said Moderna is looking for GM to establish and lead a new entity in Korea, who will be responsible for overall management of a local business organization and communicating with the Korean government regarding the supply of Coivd-19 vaccines.

Moderna is also recruiting pharmacovigilance (PV) country lead who will be responsible for setting the strategy and leading the company¡¯s efforts in PV in South Korea. The website described the job while clearly mentioning ¡°Moderna¡¯s subsidiary in South Korea,¡± making public its subsidiary establishment plan in Korea.

Earlier, Moderna showed its intentions to set up subsidiaries in South Korea, Japan and Australia this year.

But it remains unclear when Moderna will begin its Korean operation, how big its local organization will be, and whether it will commission vaccine production to Korean partners.

On Apr. 30, World Health Organization listed the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, making it the fifth vaccine to receive emergency validation from WHO. Moderna recently signed a vaccine distribution contract with GC Pharma to supply 40 million doses to South Korea.
