S. Korea confirms its first five cases of Omicron variant

South Korean health authorities are tightening quarantine measures against Covid-19 as the country on Wednesday confirmed its first five cases with the new Omicron variant amid daily coronavirus infections rising above 5,000 for the first time. The first cases of the Omicron variant were confirmed in a fully vaccinated couple in their 40s who recently traveled to Nigeria. Two of their family members and a friend also tested positive for the variant, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).
