Korea¡¯s biggest startup convention sports chicken frying, delivery robots

Come Up 2021, South Korea¡¯s biggest startup convention, kicked off in Seoul on Wednesday, offering startups to showcase their creative inventions and business innovations ranging from fried chicken cooking robot to self-driving delivery robot to potential investors and consumers.

The startup festival, participated by 72 startups, attracted more than 15,000 visitors on opening day. The event is held online and offline for three days until Friday, with seminars and business meetings organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

Participating startups have set up booths in Dongdaemun Design Plaza¡¯s exhibition halls, boasting various inventions.

Fried chicken cooking robot ¡°Robert Chicken¡± of Robo Arete has been most popular. The robot has been designed to deep fry chicken to prepare Koreans¡¯ favorite late-night snack. Robo Arete plans to add more functions to the cooking robot to make business easy for self-employed. The company plans to begin franchise business next year.

Neubility also drew large crowd with its self-driving delivery robot, which is to begin delivery service for a convenience store in Seocho, an urban neighborhood in southern Seoul later this month. Equipped with cameras, Neubility¡¯s autonomous delivery robot is priced at around 5 million won ($4,200), which is about half the average cost of LiDAR sensor-based delivery automation solutions.
