South Korea¡¯s LED packaging manufacturer Luxpia said on Tuesday it will soon launch a new air purifier built with a plasma module that it claims is proven to kill 99.9 percent of airborne SARS-COV-2, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

Cold plasma is known to be harmless to the human body and has considerable sterilization abilities, and the company said its plasma module holds promise for many applications in everyday spaces like homes, offices and schools where sterile air supplies are needed.

Plasma is an electrically charged gas and it produces powerful bactericidal chemicals such as reactive oxygen and nitrogen species that steal electrons from the virus and kills them.

Luxpia said its plasma module was proven to achieve 99.9 percent inactivation of the airborne Covid-19 virus in a test jointly conducted by Korea Zoonosis Research Institute, Jeonbuk National University.

Korea Zoonosis Research Institute is one of the few Covid-19 test labs authorized by Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
