LG Electronics Inc. will unveil its upcoming dual-screen smartphone with a main screen twisting out on September 14.
The company announced Wednesday that it sent a 20-second-long video to global media platforms to invite them to its online launch event of the smartphone codenamed Wing.
The video features a main display rotating to make a T-shaped formation with the second screen that each runs different functions to enhance users’ multitasking experience. A message reading “life is much better than expected when discover something new” appears at the end of the video, implying that the company is preparing Explorer Project to launch a whole-new concept of new smartphone.
The company said in a press release that it is kicking off the Explorer Project to deliver distinctive and yet unexplored usability experience, a strategy that tackles uncharted territory in the industry.
It is collaborating with various platform partners including Naver Whale, Ficto, Rave, Tubi and Qualcomm Technologies to develop unique features that will improve the mobile viewing experience.
The company will divide its smartphone products into two groups – Universal Line and Explorer Project Line – to provide both universal and premium products to increase consumer choices.
“LG and platform partners feel it is vitally important to demonstrate to consumers new and differentiated user experiences in the smartphone space,” said Morris Lee, president of LG’s Mobile Communications division. “LG has always been a pioneer in pushing the envelope of smartphone form factors, the only way to bring about much needed innovation in the mobile market.”
