South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. will embark on development of self-driving vehicle solutions through a joint venture established in Silicon Valley with Swiss software company Luxoft.
LG Electronics and Luxoft signed a contract to set up a connected car solution JV on the sidelines of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 on Tuesday (local time) in Las Vegas. The JV will be set up in Silicon Valley, home for high-tech companies in California, and will lead the development of digital cockpits, rear seat entertainment systems and other smart mobility devices, using LG Electronics’ own webOS Auto, a connected in-vehicle infotainment platform.
The two parties hope that products to be developed by the JV can bring new self-driving features tailored to diverse lifestyles of different drivers.
“The JV will help make better industry ecosystem for webOS Auto-based smart vehicles. We’ll make efforts to add customer value with the next-generation in-vehicle infotainment platform,” said Park Il-pyung, LG Electronics Chief Technology Officer during the signing ceremony. Luxoft President and CEO Dmitry Loschinin also attended the signing ceremony.
