LG Electronics, Qt expand partnership on open platform for smart devices

Korea¡¯s LG Electronics Inc. and Finnish software developer The Qt Company will build on their partnership to enable LG`s open source webOS platform more comprehensive and widely available for smart devices in the automotive, robotics and smart home sectors.

Under the memorandum of understanding signed on Wednesday, the two companies will expand their business and technical partnership, including collaboration on making webOS a reference system of Qt.

WebOS, also known as LG webOS, is a Linux kernel-based multitasking operating system for smart devices like smart TVs. Qt, with expertise in user experience (UX), offers various software products including a software tool for developing graphical user interface, which allows users to interact with electronic devices through visual indicators, in consumer and automotive devices.

LG Electronics uses Qt software in its webOS for smart TVs and digital signage displays as well as to develop connected cars¡¯ in-vehicle infotainment systems.

Through the upgraded partnership, the two companies aim to minimize the gaps between webOS and Qt, building a more powerful development environment for developers, engineers, and designers to create innovative and immersive apps and devices, stated in the press release.
