South Korea¡¯s food giant CJ CheilJedang Corp. has achieved a new sales milestone with its fruit vinegar drink ¡®Petitzel¡¯ in Japan as its sales topped 20 billion won ($17.8 million) as of last Saturday thanks to growing popularity of healthy drinks among young Japanese consumers.
CJ CheilJedang first introduced its Petitzel fruit vinegar drink concentrate in Japan in 2012 and expanded its exports to the country three years later. The drink¡¯s sales in Japan first exceeded 10 billion won in 2016 and then hit 19 billion won in 2017. As of Sept. 15, its sales already hit 20 billion won, raising expectations that Petitzel¡¯s sales for this year would reach 33 billion won, said the Korean food maker on Tuesday.
The Korean company said the success of Petitzel has come in line with growing interest in energy boosting and healthy drinks among young consumers in Japan in their 20s and 30s. It also contributed the fruit vinegar drink¡¯s success to diverse sales channels the company has built in the country. Petitzel is now sold at not only big box chains such as Costco but also Japan¡¯s major drugstore chains Tsuruha and Kirindo as well as the country¡¯s largest retailer AEON Mall.
