This year’s Korean Wave Fair will be held online from May 13 to August, said its co-sponsor Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) Tuesday.

The agency hosted the event since 2010 by touring other countries and cities around the world to give Korean firms opportunities to promote their products in overseas markets with help of K-pop stars. It is for the first time for the agency to host the event online.

It is jointly organized by FNC Entertainment and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Under the theme of overcoming COVID-19, 500 Korean manufacturers of beauty products, home cooking devices, health supplements, home appliances, medical and hygiene supplies and digital device as well as medical and educational services providers will participate to market their goods and services through videoconferencing.

Korean girl group AOA and boy band N.Flying and SF9 have been appointed as honorary ambassadors. They will hold a concert on June 13, which will be broadcast live through YouTube channels of KOTRA and FNC Entertainment. The same concert will also be broadcast once again the next day given the time difference.

“Hallyu, a representative soft power of Korea, has unlimited applications in contactless marketing during the post-COVID-19 era,” KOTRA president Kwon Pyung-oh said. “We will promote the high quality of Korean goods and services worldwide through the event to be held online for the first time.”
