South Korea’s leading online game developer and publisher NCSoft Corp. will enhance artificial intelligence-based non-player characters with responsive, adaptive and intelligent behaviors in its much-anticipated mobile MMORPG title “Lineage 2M” coming out this year.
“There would be no comparable games to the new Lineage series for the next few years,” said NCSoft CEO Kim Taek-jin in show of confidence in the global market during its press event on Oct. 8.
Gamers are showing higher interest in the new label, with pre-orders topping 5 million in just 32 days of opening. Character pre-registration also was completed on 100 servers in the first two hours of launch on Oct. 15 and the company upped the allowed number, according to industry sources on Tuesday.
In the new title Lineage 2M, high-level enemy characters were built by adding dynamic AI technology to the usual, basic behavior patterns. This makes it possible for the non-players characters to do “unexpected” behaviors with basic attacks to near user characters, according to the company.
“There were many obstacles in the development as the game AIs have no behavior patterns. It will further improve its patterns by learning from actual play experience with users,” said a developer at the company.
Lineage, a medieval fantasy MMORPG series developed by NCSoft, got huge success in the domestic and global markets immediately after the release in 1998. The newest mobile version of Lineage 2M comes with full 3D graphics for more real-like gaming experiences within this year.
The official launch date has yet to be disclosed.
