▶Business Survey Index (BSI) and Economic Sentiment Index (ESI) for May 2018

1. The Business Survey Index (BSI) on business conditions in the manufacturing sector for May 2018 was 78, up 1 point from the previous month, but that for the outlook for the following month fell by 1 point to 80.

※ After seasonal adjustment, the BSI for May 2018 was 74, up 2 points from April 2018, but that for the outlook for the following month fell by 1 point to 76.

2. In the non-manufacturing sector, the BSI on business conditions for May 2018 was 82, up 2 points from the previous month, and that for the outlook for the following month also rose by 1 point to 82.

※ After seasonal adjustment, the BSI for May 2018 was 79, up 2 points from April 2018, and that for the outlook for the following month also rose by 3 points to 80.

3. The Economic Sentiment Index (ESI)－a composite of the BSI and the CSI (Consumer Survey Index) for April － 2018 was 97.5, up 1.9 points from March 2018.
