President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on Monday that the government would ban bauxite exports starting this year to spur commodity downstreaming to industrialize the economy. The export ban was initially slated to start in mid-2023, as detailed in Energy and Mineral Resources Ministerial Regulation No. 17/2020. Bauxite is the main ingredient in the production of tin. Jokowi said the government would also ban exports of "raw copper" starting in 2023, which is in line with the energy ministry regulation.
