Users of South Korean mobile services can now to have their identity verified with a mobile identification (ID) using quick response (QR) code in local ID authentication app PASS.
Korea’s three mobile carriers—SK Telecom Co., KT Corp., and LG Uplus Corp.—announced Wednesday that they are introducing the “PASS Mobile ID Verification Service.”
With the service, users can scan the QR code of their PASS mobile ID card, which has the same effect as an ID, to use the QR authentication feature in the PASS app.
The three mobile service carriers will also provide free PASS mobile ID kits, such as banner ads, to store owners who use the PASS Mobile ID Verification Service in Gangnam District and the Hongdae area in Seoul.
“We expect the PASS mobile ID to be actively used in various fields that require identity verification as it is now equipped with verification functionality,” the three mobile carriers said. “We will strive to make it an essential app for everyday life sans wallet.”
