The city of Goyang in Gyeonggi Province has partnered with the National Cancer Center to build a biomedical complex in the city under the national strategic industries initiative.
According to the city on Monday, the city and the cancer institute signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday to designate the bio precision medicine complex planned for Goyang Ilsan Techno Valley as a bio-specialized complex under the national initiative. Goyang Mayor Lee Dong-hwan and National Cancer Center President Hong Gwan Seo attended the signing ceremony.
The agreement includes the National Cancer Center¡¯s support for advanced integrated cancer research projects using big data and artificial intelligence (AI).
¡°This agreement will help our city attract specialized complexes, positioning us on the global stage for cancer research, treatment, and new drug development,¡± Lee said.
¡°We have been playing a pivotal role in the national bio hub, and plan to further our impact by collaborating with Goyang city to develop an industrial ecosystem focused on cancer,¡± Seo added.
Businesses in the specialized complex can enjoy various benefits including expedited permits, research and development support, tax deductions, and fee reductions.
The designation of the location where the complex will be situated is expected to be determined in the first half of 2024.
