A Chinese hacking group on Sunday attacked the websites of 12 South Korean academic institutions, the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) said Wednesday.

The 12 institutions include Korean Language Society, Korean Archaeological Society, Korean Parents¡¯ Association, Jeju National University Educational Science Institute, and The Society for the Study of Educational Principles.

According to KISA, the Chinese hacking group had warned on Jan. 21 that it will attack about 2,000 websites of Korean government agencies.

KISA and the Ministry of Science and ICT launched an around-the-clock monitoring this week against additional hacking, ransomware, and smishing.
