Hyundai Motor, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and three other local and import auto brands will voluntarily recall a combined 64,754 vehicles from 48 models in South Korea for safety issues.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Thursday the extensive recall was issued by six companies – Hyundai Motor, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Korea, Porsche Korea, Volkswagen Group Korea and Ford Sales & Service Korea.
Hyundai Motor and Kia will recall a total of 58,397 units from five electric vehicle models including Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60 after findings of possible parking mode failure on a slope due to an electronic transmission control unit software problem. This could lead to a parked car¡¯s brake failing and rolling down the inclined slope.
Mercedes-Benz Korea will recall 2,043 cars from 21 models including ML 280 CDI 4MATIC found to have problems in cover seal for brake vacuum pumps that could lead to corrosion and reduced vacuum pressure.
Assembly problems on circuit boards in rear electronic signal control units also were identified in 1,058 units of two models including GLE 300 d 4MATIC that can lead to lighting failure while shifting gear.
Porsche Korea found a defect in wiring below the front seats in 981 units of Taycan. Friction can be caused to damage the wiring and increase the risk of breakage in seats and side airbags.
Volkswagen Group Korea discovered setting problems in its advanced driver assistance systems of 820 units from two models including A6 45 TFSI.
Ford Sales & Service Korea¡¯s 231 units of Ranger were found to have dashboard software problems.
Owners will be notified of the recall by mail or SMS. Those who already paid for any repairs or parts related can apply for compensation.
