Korean CEOs pick Maeil Business Newspaper as best biz newspaper

Maeil Business Newspaper was picked as the best economic and business newspaper of the year by South Korea¡¯s top chief executive officers for the 16th straight year, according to a poll.

The New Management, a monthly business magazine, released a survey on Tuesday on favorite brands in 31 sectors of CEOs of the country¡¯s top 500 companies by sales.

More than half of 51.3 percent voted Maeil Business Newspaper as the top business newspaper.

Brands that received more than 50 percent of the votes included Korean Air Lines (80.0 percent), Hyundai Motor¡¯s Genesis (76.2 percent), Samsung Electronics¡¯ Galaxy smartphones (77.3 percent), SK Telecom (74.6 percent), Kumkang Shoe (68.2 percent), bottled water Samdasoo (67.0 percent), LG Household & Healthcare (57.6 percent), LG OLED TV (55.1 percent), CJ Logistics (51.9 percent), Hyundai Motor SUV Palisade (51.6 percent) and whiskey Valentine (50.5 percent).

Chosun Ilbo was named the best daily newspaper by winning 45.0 percent of the vote, KBS News Nine the best TV news at 37.23 percent, Shinsegae Department Store the best department store at 44.6 percent, and Seoul National University the best master of business administration (MBA) course.

The CEOs¡¯ favorite suit brand was Galaxy that received 32.2 percent of the vote, shoe brand was Kumkang Shoe (68.2 percent), beer Cass (40.5 percent), soju Chamisul (46.6 percent), Apartment Raemian (24.4 percent), hotel InterContinental (24.3 percent) and hospital Samsung Seoul Medical Center (33.0 percent).

At the financial front, Hana Bank topped the rank with 25.0 percent of the vote by elbowing out last year¡¯s winner Shinhan Bank at 22.4 percent. Mirae Asset Daewoo (22.5 percent) also overtook Samsung Securities (17.0 percent) to rank as the favorite brokerage house of the CEOs.
