YouTube and Facebook from this year will face a comprehensive review on user protection along with wireless carriers, internet companies and online platforms like Kakao Talk, according to Korea Communications Commission (KCC).

The evaluation will be conducted annually in accordance with the Telecommunications Business Act since 2013 in order to prevent user damages related to telecommunications services and to deal with user complaints more quickly and efficiently.

The measure aims to create a user-oriented communication service environment by encouraging the companies in the sector to improve their services actively.

According to the commission, this year`s evaluation targets a total of 28 operators in five service areas, including mobile phone, internet service, and additional telecommunication, taking into account the size of users and the rate of complaints. Of these, Kakao Talk, YouTube, and Facebook, which received pilot evaluations last year, will be subject to full evaluation for the first time this year.
