Ford, BMW, Toyota to recall 7,700 cars in S. Korea

Five carmakers and importers including one motorcycle brand will recall more than 7,700 vehicles to fix faulty parts and address injury risk, Korea¡¯s transport ministry said Thursday.

The five companies – Ford Sales Service Korea, BMW Korea, Toyota Motor Korea, Man Truck & Bus Korea and Moto Rossa – plan to recall 9 different models totaling 7,773 vehicles and motorcycles, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said in a statement.

The models include 7,469 Ford Explorer sedans, 171 BMW M5 sedans, 38 Toyota Prius and 28 Camry models imported by Toyota Motor Korea, 60 Man Truck TGX tractors and seven Ducati MTS1260 motorcycles imported and marketed by Moto Rossa.

The problems include injury risk from a sharp edge of the power seat in the Explorer sedan, a poor wiring in the transmission connection of the BMW M5 and a faulty circuit board in the instrument panel of the Prius sedan, a faulty safety belt in the Camry Hybrid model, a weak crank axle in the TGX tractor and a faulty welding part in the side stand of the Ducati MTS1260.

Vehicle owners will be informed on how they can receive repair and maintenance services from each brand.
