South Korea is working to package and market IT systems the country¡¯s localized to track COVID-19 infections and respond to the virus effectively to multiple countries including South Africa, Colombia, and Kazakhstan.
According to industry sources on Tuesday, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related government agencies are forming a task force team to export field-proven Korean quarantine technologies to markets in need.
The government considers refining the three established systems – epidemiological support system, self-isolation app and mask purchasing management app – and creating a single integrated brand for them.
The export version of these systems will support four languages – English, Spanish, French and Arabic.
The epidemiological support system mobilizes cellphone data and credit card records to identify people at risk of COVID-19 infection and find out how the virus has spread. With this system, investors can reduce a time-consuming study process to less than 10 minutes.
The self-isolation app is used to manage citizens who are required to stay in home isolation with possible corona-infection. The mask app is designed to provide information on the availability of masks at nearby pharmacies or retail shops.
The current epidemiological support system focuses on data that help investigators make a decision, while the packaged product being refined by the government is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) functions to provide additional data-driven information including who is at risk of infection and where should be quarantined.
Some 10 Korean IT companies are being discussed to participate in the system development.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is currently negotiating with several countries including South Africa over the K-quarantine export. South Africa is allegedly showing interest in importing Korea¡¯s epidemiological support system.
Kazakhstan is asking for quarantine system support from Korea through the Asian Development Bank.
