Renault Samsung, Hyundai, and foreign brands to recall over 160,000 cars in Korea

Hyundai Motor Co. and its domestic and foreign peers including Renault Samsung Motors and Mercedes Benz Korea will voluntarily recall more than 160,000 vehicles for faulty parts in South Korea.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced Wednesday that Renault Samsung Motors, Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, GM Korea, Mercedes-Benz Korea and Daejun Machinery will recall a combined 163,843 cars in 19 models.

Renault Samsung Motors will recall 81,417 units of SM3 Ph2 for lack of effective engine torque that could cause a sudden engine stall.

Hyundai Motor¡¯s compact SUV Tucson TL and Kia Motors¡¯ sports sedan Stinger CK were found to have problems in the hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) that could cause an electrical short circuit and spark a fire. The two automakers will recall 51,583 units of the models.

Mercedes-Benz will recall 5,245 vehicles in eight models including GLE 450 4Matic for faulty seatbelts. It also found fuse box problems in 119 units of GLA 20.

GM Korea found defective engine control unit (ECU) software in 15,078 units of All New Malibu sedan. It will also recall 850 units of Trailblazer SUV and The New Malibu for the faulty motor condition detection sensor.

Daejun Machinery will recall 75 units of three motorbike models including Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE over issues in ECU software.
