K-pop megastar BTS landed their first Grammy nomination on Tuesday, becoming the first South Korean pop artist to earn a nod from the prestigious U.S. music award.

This also makes the septet the first K-pop act to win nominations from all three major U.S. music awards including the Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards in a single year.

Korean artists that have previously earned a nomination or award at the Grammys have been in classical and traditional Korean music. BTS is the first-ever Korean artist in the pop category to be recognized by the award ceremony.

The boyband picked up two prizes at the 2020 American Music Awards on Sunday, winning favorite duo or group in pop/rock for the second straight year and favorite social artist for a third year in a row.

Last month, the group grabbed the top social artist award for the fourth consecutive year at the Billboard Music Awards.

The leader RM had told Esquire in a recent interview that "I think the Grammys are the last part, like the final part of the whole American journey."

At the Grammys, BTS would be competing in the best pop duo/group performance category with their main single ¡°Dynamite,¡± the band¡¯s first all-English song. The song, released in August, became the first song by a Korean artist to top the Billboard 100 chart.

BTS would be up against some of the biggest American pop stars including "UN DIA (ONE DAY)" by J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny & Tainy; "Intentions" by Justin Bieber feat. Quavo; ¡°Rain On Me" by Lady Gaga with Ariana Grande; and ¡°exile¡± by Taylor Swift feat. Bon Iver.

The 63th Grammy Awards would be held on Jan. 31.

Immediately after the Grammy nomination, BTS tweeted ¡°We want to thank everyone for listening and relating to our music during these hard times,¡± and gave special thanks to their global fan base known as ARMY ¡°for making this Grammy nomination miracle possible.¡±

The news failed to uplift the shares of the band¡¯s label Big Hit Entertainment. The stock fell 3.87 percent to close Wednesday at 174,000 won ($156.9).
