¡°Avengers: Endgame,¡± the final chapter of Marvel Studios¡¯ apocalyptic super hero series, became the fastest foreign film to break 12 million viewers in Korea to add another box-office record.

The Hollywood blockbuster movie was watched by 12 million as of 7 a.m. Friday in Korean Film Council¡¯s ticket sales data, said the movie¡¯s local distributor Walt Disney Company Korea. Friday marks the 17th day since Avengers: Endgame was released in Korea.

The only movie that broke the 12 million-view record faster than Avengers: Endgame is ¡°The Admiral: Roaring Currents,¡± a Korean naval war film released in 2014. Also, Avengers: Endgame now has become one of just 15 movies that drew in more than 12 million moviegoers in Korea.

Avengers: Endgame has been rewriting Korean box-office records, attracting the largest-ever number of people on the premiere day and also on daily basis. On its opening day alone, the movie grossed 9.7 billion won ($8.3 million) and accounted for 97 percent of total ticket sales of all movies screened across the country on that day. As of Friday, Avengers: Endgame was the 13th-highest-grossing film of all time in Korea.

It also took the shortest 4 hours and 30 minutes to break 1 million admissions on the opening day. Since then, it surpassed 2 million on the second day, 3 million on the third, then 10 million on the 11th day.

Avengers: Endgame is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers, produced by Marvel Studios. It is the finale of 22-episode-long saga of Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with ¡°Iron Man¡± in 2008.
