Daimler Trucks Korea and Volvo Trucks Korea will recall a combined 259 units of trucks for faulty components in brake systems, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Thursday.

Daimler Trucks found defects in retarders, a component used to assist braking systems through a coolant especially on heavy vehicles, in 198 Arocs dump trucks. Owners of the vehicles can receive free repair service at Daimler Trucks Korea service centers across the nation starting next Wednesday.

The recall came after its voluntary recall in February for 321 units of two truck models including Actros due to the defective air spoilers.

Volvo Trucks will recall 61 units of FH•FM dump trucks for faulty brake calipers, a device that automatically adjusts the position of the brake pad, which could significantly hamper brake performance. Owners can replace the component free of charge at Volvo Trucks Korea¡¯s repair centers starting Friday.

It was the company¡¯s second round of recall this month, after deciding to recall 182 units of trucks in five different models for defective brake calipers.

The transport ministry said it is urging the companies to take actions immediately and clearly because the defective braking systems of the heavy construction vehicles could cause serious damage and casualties.
