The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will open its liaison office in Seoul in May to become the third regional outpost of an UN-affiliated organization in South Korea.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on Tuesday, Minister Lee Gae-ho during his three-day visit to Italy met with José Graziano da Silva, the director-general of FAO, in Roma and agreed to set up a regional office in Seoul.

The office is preparing to post job openings for its launch in May. It will be committed to various joint-projects to strengthen food and nutritional security and agricultural technology transfer for underdeveloped countries.

The ministry expects the new office would help create new jobs in Korea and demonstrate the nation¡¯s advanced agricultural skills to the world.
