Hyundai Motor Co. and its sibling Kia Motors Corp. have issued a voluntary recall of 642,272 units in six models to fix faulty components, according to the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Monday.

Hyundai Motor will recall 130,140 Grand Starex 4-door vans, 295,982 Porter 2 trucks, 3,312 Solati vans, and 3,992 Mighty light trucks due to a defect in an air intake valve system, which could cause unstable engine revolutions per minute and shut down the engine while driving.

Kia Motors will recall 31,193 Sorento sport-utility vehicles and 177,653 Bongo 3 cabover pickup trucks due to a faulty front collision avoidance system and an air intake valve system problem, respectively.

The automakers have started the recall last Friday. Owners will receive notices about the recall from the companies by either mail or phone. Those who already fixed the recall-related problems before the recall can apply for compensation, according to the ministry.

Drivers can also visit the online recall site run by the transport ministry (www.car.go.kr) or call 080-357-2500 to check if their vehicles/equipment are subject to the latest recall or to find out more about the defects.
