The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) launched its 2024 Tourism Data Usage Contest in partnership with Kakao Corp. on Wednesday. Now in its 12th year, the competition will run from April 3rd to May 9th, 2024, and aims to unearth a range of integrated tourism services by using approximately 2.8 million pieces of open tourism data from the Tour API, Kakao’s Open API, and other public data.

The 2023 edition of the contest led to the discovery of innovative applications such as BETRIVI, an AI video analysis-based travel information app, and Danim, a personalized travel curation app, showcasing the event’s success in promoting technological advancements in the tourism sector.

The competition boasts a total prize pool of 75 million won ($55,000) for 65 teams in 2024, with the grand prize winner receiving 15 million won. In addition to the grand prize, there will be eight Excellence Awards with a prize of 3 million won each, 16 Merit Awards of 1 million won each, and 40 Encouragement Awards of 500,000 won each. The winners will also benefit from additional benefits, including bonus points during the document review phase of the Credit Guarantee Fund’s startup incubation program.
