South Korean wireless telecommunications operator SK telecom Co. said Tuesday that it has clinched an order to build an intelligent transport system (ITS) for Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province.

A consortium led by SK telecom will build a system that collects real-time traffic data from intelligent trackers at 288 of the 754 intersections in the city. The tracker installation will end by July 2024.

For intersections in which the installation is complicated, the mobile carrier will deploy Litmus, a location analysis platform, to offer organized traffic data while sharing with the city authority information about old vehicle detection systems (VDS), variable message signs (VMS), and parking lots to help the regulator replace them.

The project is estimated at 14 billion won ($10.8 million), which includes state funding from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
