South Korea¡¯s bedding companies are quickly introducing functional products that provide a cooling effect to meet the growing demand of consumers as the early summer heatwave hits the country.
With surging electricity bills, there is a growing number of customers seeking cooling functional products that can help lower body temperature and quickly cool down sweat, while saving on air conditioning.
According to global market research firm KBV Research, the global market for cooling materials is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 17.3 percent until 2026, reaching $3.6 billion as cooling materials are widely applied across various lifestyle products.
According to sources on Tuesday, Sesa Living, the allergy-preventing bedding brand of Welcron Co., recently unveiled its summer ice bedding series called Sesa Ice Cooling. The company offers a lineup of products adapted to consumer lifestyle changes, including ice cooling pads, sheets, pillow covers and cylindrical cushions.
¡°We are conducting marketing campaigns for cooling bedding products at major department stores such as Lotte, Shinsegae, Hyundai and Galleria,¡± said a company official.
According to Welcron, Sesa¡¯s ice bedding products immediately absorb and release body heat upon contact with the skin, providing a refreshing sensation known as the contact cooling effect, allowing users to enjoy a comfortable sleeping environment even during the humid monsoon season or tropical nights.
¡°Based on test results from our research institute, it has been proven that the skin surface temperature falls by 7.8 degrees Celsius immediately after using the ice bedding, and the ¡®cooling sensation¡¯ recovers faster compared to regular bedding that retains heat for a long time,¡± the official explained.
Daemyung Sonoseason Co. is another Korean firm responding to the summer heatwave by quickly introducing cooling bedding products. The company recently launched its graphinol functional bedding, which is the world¡¯s first bedding made with a combination of cooling yarn and linoleum-graphene material.
¡°This product¡¯s features include enhanced antimicrobial, deodorizing, and tick prevention functions, as well as improved durability,¡± said a company spokesperson.
EveZary, another Korean provider of bedclothes products, recently released two types of summer bedding, which utilize natural cooling materials. These products are made from a material called Modal, extracted from the fiber of beechwood trees, and plant-based fibers such as cotton. They are further enhanced with a special processing treatment called Atocool, which utilizes xylitol, a natural ingredient known for its refreshing properties, to maximize the cooling effect.
It is not only bedding companies that are paying attention to cooling products. Companies like Yuhan Kimberly, a Korean manufacturer of hygiene products, are also quickly introducing cooling materials to cater to infants. Sesa Puppy, a pet supplies brand, recently unveiled cooling products for temperature-sensitive pets, as their average body temperature is higher than humans, making them more prone to heat.
