MyRealTrip, South Korea’s leading travel platform startup, has acquired local rival tour platform startup Startrip in its second deal for this year following its takeover of kids and teens-oriented travel platform Donkey to enhance its travel content business in preparation for a post-pandemic travel boom.
MyRealTrip on Monday announced the deal but did not disclose financial terms.
StarTrip provides information on places related to Korean pop stars, such as BTS music video filming locations and girl group Blackpink’s favorite restaurants. After the acquisition, MyRealTrip plans to increase the volume of information and add new languages to StarTrip service.
“We are preparing for a post-pandemic surge in tourism. More foreigners will surely come to Korea to experience K-content after the pandemic,” said Lee Dong-gun, CEO of MyRealTrip.
This was the second acquisition for MyRealTrip this year. Previously in March, it acquired IwaTrip, which operates Donkey, a family-oriented travel platform for kids and teens. MyRealTrip also invested in O-Peace Jeju, a service provider of co-working spaces and accommodations on Jeju Island.
