Samsung Electronics Co. is rolling out Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) sporting all the key features of its latest premium Galaxy S20 models and yet priced below the high-end as not to lose winning momentum after Apple¡¯s iPhone 12 release next month.
The South Korean tech giant in an unpack event on Thurday presented that the Galaxy S20 FE is priced $699 despite all the high-end features of premium S20 series - a 120 Hz AMOLED display and 7nm 64-bit Octa-Core Processor, a big 4,500-mAh battery, as well as 5G connectivity. It comes with 128 gigabyte of storage and 6 gigabyte of RAM, with an option to expand storage by up to 1 terabyte with a microSD card, it added.
The new phone in a slim design will come in six vibrant colors – Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White.
The company expects the Galaxy S20 FE would help it reach out to a broader consumer base at a time of when demand for smartphones and devices are rapidly rising in the pandemic era.
The Galaxy S20 FE is about $400 cheaper than Samsung Electronics¡¯ premium flagship S20 series, which were released in February with a retail price tag of 1.25 million won ($1,060).
Market analysts suspect that Samsung Electronics is trying to enhance its position in the smartphone market with more affordable but still powerful smartphone series before debut of Apple¡¯s iPhone 12 series next month.
Samsung Electronics began taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S20 FE on Thursday. The official global launch is scheduled on Oct. 2, with its release in Korea coming later in mid-October.
