NHN PixelCube, an online game publishing subsidiary of South Korea¡¯s leading game and online service provider NHN Corp., is merged with its sister company NHN Starfish under the parent company¡¯s reorganization scheme for its game businesses in a bid for bigger synergy.

The company announced Thursday that NHN Starfish was merged into NHN PixelCube as of July 1. The new entity will be headed by NHN PixelCube CEO Lee Seung-hye.

NHN PixelCube specializes in online game development and operation. It was spun off from NHN for independent operation in early 2014. The company is best known for online puzzle game series including Friends Pop and Line Pop.

NHN Starfish services Hangame GoStop and other online board games.

¡°We expect their union would help improve operational efficiency as well as boost synergy between the two game businesses,¡± said an NHN official.

NHN plans to groom NHN PixelCube as a pillar game developing unit along with its online sports game specialist NHN Bigfoot.

The company vowed to accelerate its efforts to develop new games. For this, it has been reorganizing businesses and employing more game developers.

On Friday, shares of NHN traded at 81,900 won ($68.27), down 0.97 percent from the previous session, in the morning.
