Hanwha Defense, a defense solutions unit under South Korean conglomerate Hanwha Group, is extending a winning streak in orders for its weapons systems, raising expectations that it would bag a total of up to 2.2 trillion won ($1.83 billion) in orders this year.

Hanwha Defense announced Tuesday it has signed a 380 billion won deal to mass-produce K56 robotic ammunition resupply vehicles to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). With the addition, the company has bagged 1.2 trillion won orders at home in total in the first six months, surging fivefold from a year ago.

More orders are expected in the latter half of the year – mass production of K105A1 self-propelled artillery (evolved wheeled self-propelled howitzer), maintenance of assault amphibious vehicles for the Korean marine corps, development of explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robots, and mass production of another self-propelled howitzers.

Test and evaluation to join an armored amphibious assault bridge project will soon be started.

Expected deals in the second half are estimated at 1 trillion won, which should enable Hanwha Defense to clinch a total of up to 2.2 trillion won worth orders this year, nearly doubling from the previous year.
