South Korean state-lender Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK) said Sunday it will introduce a voice authentication service from June 5, which would be the first of its kind in the local banking industry.

The new system will draw on the speaker recognition database of more than 100 voices and would be able to differentiate the sound and phonetic characteristics of even identical twins and siblings, the company said.

IBK plans to adopt the new authentication at its customer service center. The system would process the voices of customers and verify their identity within 15 seconds.

Voice identification would be a more secure form of biometrics compared to facial or fingerprint recognition, the bank said.
