Korea’s Samsung, LG sweep best tech innovation awards at CES 2020

Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. swept top tech awards at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world`s biggest consumer electronics trade show held last week in Las Vegas.

Samsung Electronics said it received a total of 198 awards at CES 2020 held in Las Vegas from Jan 7-10, including CES Innovation Awards from the tech trade show’s organizer Consumer Technology Association. CES Innovation Awards are presented to consumer technology products with outstanding design and engineering.

The Korean tech giant took home the best innovation awards for display and soundbar technologies for the ninth year in a row. The honorees from the category include quantum-dot display-based QLED 8K TV (Q950TS), QLED 8K TVs’ new Q-Symphony sound feature and the lifestyle TV “The Sero.”

Its home appliance rival LG Electronics bagged total 119 awards for tech innovation, with more than half or 69 honors received in TV category. LG organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs from the CX series won the Best of CES Awards. It is the sixth consecutive year for the company to be recognized with top honor for its OLED TV lineups.

The CES Innovation Awards were given to a number of its premium home appliance products. They include AI-powered TurboWash 360 front-load washer/dryer pair and Instaview door-and-door refrigerator.
