South Korea¡¯s dermacosmetics pioneer Dr. Jart+, under ownership of U.S. cosmetics giant Estée Lauder since last year, launched Solarbiome lines based on microbial materials that have survived in extreme space environment.

The Solarbiome line is the latest addition to the Korean cosmetics brand¡¯s skin microbiome lineup first unveiled last year. Microbiome, a microbial ecosystem inside human bodies that helps promote health and prevent disease, has become the latest buzzword in the cosmetics scene at home and abroad since its launch.

The new lines use a base ingredient that contains two microbes – Bacillus subtilis spores and Deinococcus radiodurans cells, which were found to be able to endure more than 100 days under extreme space conditions such as ultraviolet rays, radiation and temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius in a study by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

The cells can be effective in sun screening, blocking out UV and other harmful rays and also help skin recover from UV damage and anti-aging, the company found in its additional study.

Dr. Jart+ recently hired influencers to promote the much-anticipated Solarbiome lines to local customers in Korea. All the initial batch of the products sold out on the first day of the launch, and buyers voluntarily posted photos and reviews of the products on social network sites.

The cosmetics maker plans to take the Solarbiome lines to the global market, starting with Hong Kong next month. ¡°With the launch of Solarbiome lines, Dr. Jart+ will keep up efforts to introduce more products to become a leader in the beauty microbiome industry,¡± said a company official.

Dr. Jart+ last year went under the family of global beauty giant Estée Lauder, which obtained full ownership in its parent Have & Be Co. It has expanded its footing across 37 countries with best-selling items like Cicapair and Ceramidin lines.
