KT Corp. signed a deal with Thailand-based 3BB TV to provide its internet protocol television (IPTV) technology and service expertise, the South Korean mobile carrier announced on Sunday.

Under the 24 billion won ($20 million) deal, KT will help 3BB TV commercialize its own IPTV service in the Southeast Asian country in the second of half of this year using KT¡¯s IPTV solutions that include over-the-top solutions, content delivery network and network optimization technology and set-top box management and end-to-end service quality management solutions.

3BB TV is a subsidiary of Jasmine Group, the second-largest high-speed internet provider in Thailand.

KT, the largest IPTV service provider in Korea, said it will provide IPTV solutions optimized for the local environment in Thailand, which will reflect its customer-specific composition for media content and UI/UX identity.

The contract was signed virtually after frequent online calls and video conferences due to travel restrictions amid COVID-19, the company said. KT made a business proposal with a long-term growth perspective 3BB TV wants in a situation where an economic downturn is expected in the region.

KT immediately developed solutions for 3BB TV in Korea to minimize any disruption to their service commercialization schedule.

It is a good opportunity to demonstrate KT¡¯s IPTV capability in the global market, said Kim Young-woo, the head of KT¡¯s global department, adding KT will help 3BB TV become the top IPTV service provider in Thailand.

The Jasmine Group is hoping to combine its high-speed internet and IPTV services to become the No. 1 telecommunication company in Thailand.
