Genesis unveils all-new G80 sedan despite virus fears

Hyundai Motor Co.¡¯s luxury marguee Genesis unveiled its all-new G80 sedan, the third-generation full-change model of its sedan series, at the world premiere press conference held Monday.

The showcase was live-streamed online without audience due to concerns about the ongoing virus spread.

Genesis G80, the premium full-sized sedan is the third-generation full-change model in seven years featuring signature design elements of the brand, advanced driving performance and driver safety and convenient systems.

The all-new G80 comes with three engine options of 2.5-liter gasoline turbo, 3.5-liter gasoline turbo and 2.2-liter diesel engine. The 3.5-liter gasoline turbo engine-powered model is capable of producing up to 380 horsepower and 54 kgf•m of torque.

Front highlight is the Crest Grille with double-line Quadlamps, the signature design elements of the brand dubbed ¡®athletic elegance.¡¯ To evoke the elegant image of classic cars, it features a long Parabolic Line that begins at the front Quadlamp and gradually runs lower to the rear. It has coupe-shaped design with the roof dipping slightly, but the rear seat boasts spacious head room.

The 2021 Genesis G80 also is embedded with various driving safety features like pre-active safety seat system that adjusts a passenger to a safe position by pulling the seat back forward in the event of a forward collision or sudden braking and turning, 10 airbags, forward collision avoidance assist and blind spot collision avoidance assist.

¡°The all-new G80 brings all the existing strengths from the previous generations all the while upgrading the powertrain, platform and communication system with the state-of-the-art technologies,¡± said Albert Biermann, president and head of research & development division at Hyundai Motor Group. ¡°It is a true, authentic Genesis.¡±

Customers will also be able to choose own color and option package based on the ¡°Your Genesis¡± system to make a customized order for G80.

Genesis set up the prices of all-new G80 between 52.47 million won ($42,899.19) for the cheapest model and 59.07 million won for the highest trim.

The newest model will be displayed at the company¡¯s studio in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province on Mar. 31-Apr. 26. Customers who want test drive will be visited by the company staff for service explanation.

Genesis has launched its first sport utility vehicle model GV80 in January and is planning to add more to the lineup with the launch of GV70 and electric vehicle models by next year. The premium brand was established as a standalone marque in 2015 and since become available in the U.S., Canada, Russia and the Middle East.
