Samsung Electronics Co.¡¯s next flagship smartphone Galaxy S11 scheduled for launch in February next year is expected to feature a new proprietary technology called ¡®Space Zoom¡¯ that allows extensive zooming without causing any loss in quality of photographs.

According to foreign media and industry sources on Tuesday, the Korean tech giant recently filed a patent for the Space Zoom technology with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The patent document said it is software for smartphones and cameras that enables to ¡°zoom in to a subject without lowering image quality.¡± Sources predicted the Galaxy S11 would become its first flagship to feature 5x optical zoom, more than doubling the 2x optical zoom that has been mounted on premium series since Galaxy S8 in 2017.

Industry watchers also predicted that the upcoming flagship would have a 108-megapixel image sensor that the company first applied to Xiaomi¡¯s Mi CC9 Pro that was unveiled early this month. The Chinese company¡¯s latest phone received the highest score in terms of camera functions by DxOMark, a site that rates phone and digital cameras.

The Galaxy S11 would come with three different screen sizes – 6.4 inch, 6.7 inch and 6.9 inch, according to sources, and the smaller two models will come in LTE and 5G variations while the 6.9-inch product will just support 5G network. Just like the Galaxy Note 10 that was launched in August, all of the three models of the Galaxy S11 are tipped to be offered in only 5G in Korea.

Some sources expected that the Galaxy S11 series will have a curved-edge display, instead of flat panel found on the Galaxy S10e. Market watchers predicted Samsung Electronics would also unveil new Galaxy Buds, its wireless earbuds, when it releases the next flagship next year.
