Mercedes-Benz opens auto part logistics center in Korea with doubled capacity

Mercedes-Benz said Wednesday it has completed a 35 billion won ($29.1 million) project to double its logistics center in Anseong, South Korea, creating its third largest facility for auto part supply in Asia.

An opening ceremony was held on Tuesday in the city, 80 kilometers south of Seoul. Construction began in July 2014 with an investment of 52 billion won.

The new facility which now encompasses doubled space of 30,500 square and number of docks, enabling increase of stock to over 50,000 parts from current 28,000, the German carmaker said. The warehouse will be able to meet 99 percent of auto part demand in Korea. The center delivers auto parts for passenger and commercial vehicles to 89 car dealer shops across the country.

Advanced logistics equipment has been installed at the center to reduce workflows and increase productivity. Sensor-guided forklifts automatically recognize the location of auto parts to ensure safe and efficient storing and releasing work.

Mercedes-Benz said the logistics center will create 100 new jobs in Anseong and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
