Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom team up for 6G network R&D

Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Telecom Co. have teamed up to take 5G service to the next level, while advancing toward the era of 6G. The two Monday agreed to conduct joint research on upgrading 5G solutions and developing 6G technology, SK Telecom said Tuesday.

To refine 5G technology, they agreed to collaborate in further studying and commercializing 28 GHz differentiation, ultra reliable and low latency communication, vehicle-to-everything communication for autonomous vehicles and drones, evolution of 5G stand-alone network, enhancement of multiple-input, multiple-output antenna setup, and 5G in-building solutions.

Regarding 5G, they also agreed to join forces in multiple dimensions to ensure the industry¡¯s best 5G services through joint development and commercialization in network technology, innovative terminals and software and smart solutions.

They will also work together on developing core technologies for 6G network and explore new business opportunities.

Separately last week, SK Telecom partnered up with telecom equipment vendors Nokia and Ericsson for collaboration on 6G wireless network research and development. Samsung Electronics also in a move to get itself ready for the next-generation wireless technology launched an R&D team dedicated to developing 6G network solutions and studying 6G network standards earlier this month.
