South Korea’s Doosan Corp. has added logistics automation business to its portfolio, betting on the logistics market growing rapidly on the back of the burgeoning global e-commerce market.

Doosan said Tuesday it has secured technologies for integrated logistics automation and set up Doosan Logistics Solutions that will implement the technologies. The new business will offer its solutions on a total turnkey basis in which the provider is responsible for all the process of setting up automated logistics center, ranging from layout designing and hardware supply to related software installation and implementation.

E-commerce and logistics companies would become its major customers, Doosan expected.

Doosan Logistics Solutions is planning to use Doosan’s edge in forklifts, collaborative robots and drone batteries to combine with its solutions.

At a recent logistics exhibition held at Kintex in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province in Korea, Doosan showcased forklifts fitted with lithium-ion batteries, forklift automated guided vehicles capable of preventing collision with five sensors, and a surround-view system for safety of drivers and passers-by.

“Logistics automation is being upgraded with the smart technology. We’ll combine the logistics solutions with our existing technologies to nurture Doosan Logistics Solutions to the industry’s best in Korea,” said Dong Hyun-soo, vice chairman of Doosan.
