Samsung SDI, Korea¡¯s major battery maker, said Monday it will present a massive lineup of next-generation electric vehicle batteries with innovative materials and differentiated designs at the 2019 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

The company will exhibit a wide range of cells, modules and battery packs under the theme "Charged for Auto 2.0" at the motor show running Jan. 14-27 in Detroit, Michigan.

Auto 2.0 is a concept introduced by U.S investment bank Goldman Sachs in 2017 and refers to an era marked by electric and fully autonomous vehicles, hyper connectivity and the sharing economy.

Samsung SDI¡¯s exhibition theme is divided into three solutions: EV (Future mobility platform), PHEV (mass and prestige production of EVs) and LVS (Higher fuel efficiency).

The EV industry has two technical challenges: range extension with higher energy density and reduction of EV price. The new products introduced by Samsung SDI come in with fewer cells per vehicle, which is expected to contribute to cost control in automakers.

Samsung SDI also plans to unveil its business roadmap for next-generation solid-state batteries, which is supported by advanced low voltage system packs.

Solid-state batteries are considered safer than previous batteries made with solid electrolytes and have more potential for higher energy density, extending the driving range to over 700 km on single charging.
