Jaguar and 7 other imported car brands to recall over 20,000 cars in Korea

The Korean transportation ministry has ordered eight foreign car makers and importers a voluntary recall of over 20,000 cars including Jaguar XE and Ferrari 488 GTB to fix faulty components.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Thursday, Jaguar Land Rover Korea Co., Forza Motors Korea Corp. (FMK) – Ferrari car importer, Toyota Motor Korea Co., Volvo Car Korea, Hanbul Motor Corp. - Peugeot importer, Mercedes-Benz Korea Ltd, Honda Korea Co., and BMW Korea Co. will recall 20,529 cars in 35 different models. Also, KCP Heavy Industries Co. and four other construction equipment makers will recall 475 units.

Jaguar Land Rover Korea will recall a total of 6,266 cars in three different models including Jaguar XE to replace Takata Corp.¡¯s defective airbags, which have resulted in a number of death and series injuries across the world due to an explosion.

FMK, importer of Italian supercar Ferrari, will recall 475 cars in 13 models for problems including Takata airbag and faulty Bowden cable layout. The models subject to recall include Ferrari 488GTB (F142BBE), Ferrari GTC4Lusso, and LaFerrari.

Toyota Motor Korea will recall 244 cars including Lexus LS500h AWD with run-flat tire problem.

The nationwide recall will also include motorcycles and construction equipment. Scooters made by Honda and BMW are subject to the voluntary recall campaign, and five construction equipment makers including KCP Heavy Industries are recalling concrete pump built on Hyundai Motor¡¯s Xcient truck.

The automakers and importers are starting the recall this week. Owners can visit the online recall site run by the transport ministry (www.car.go.kr) or call 080-357-2500 to check if their vehicles/equipments are part of the recall or to find out more about the defects.
